3 Invites for You
Hello, You -
This is Neighborfully, a dispatch from Neighborful Station, and it's such a delight to be here with you. These are your 3 invites for this week.
Invite 1: Blue Skies
Those of us living in the Northeast are getting a break from the cold and snow, but instead we've got middling temperatures and London-style rains.
Let's remember what it feels like on a beautiful day
Take a moment, right now, and think about the most beautiful clear sky you can remember. This might have been a day when you were playing in the park as a kid, or it might have been a sunny Saturday last June when you were gardening. Feel the joy of noticing how achingly beautiful the sky is, curving above your head in all directions, and look around in your imagination at the crystal blue surrounding you, as you take a deep breath.
I saw some daffodil buds poking through the soil in a garden this morning while I was out for a walk. Spring is coming, dear soggy friends. 🌧️❤️😊
Invite 2: Tell Your Neighbor Line Story
As of this past week's episode, 25 of you have shared your stories from the real world of neighbors who have taken great care of you. Our listeners love your stories. I got a text this week from someone who adored the Neighbor Line message at the end of Sock Hop, from Sabina, of her first day in the city and the woman who helped her find her way.
Your stories inspire all of us to be great neighbors.
When you're ready to call in and share your own story, call the Neighbor Line at (814) 366-5824. The outgoing message will talk you through what you need to do. And I will do absolutely everything in my power to make you sound amazing.
Invite 3: Listen to Neighborful Station
Our latest episode is Cavern Pool (Apple)(Spotify)(YouTube). You go for a Saturday night swim at the Natatorium on the campus of Lucretia Mott College. You also discover that a free 'breakfast for dinner' buffet is happening in the conference center overlooking the pool - because swimming requires lots of energy. 🏊🤖🥞
Our Kitchen Cabinet suggested Cavern Pool as an episode, because we all have lots of nostalgia for indoor pools from childhood. Your family might still seek out hotels on vacation that have indoor pools. This particular pool is very unusual, because it's formed from a limestone cavern, making it something like a cenote in Mexico. I also envisioned this pool as a robotics lab, inspired by a summer internship I had at the National Robotics Engineering Center in Pittsburgh. (Fun fact: I was their webmaster for the summer of 1996. The web site is... more advanced these days.)
Wish of the Week
May you give yourself the time each day to reconnect with your own sense of peace, even as the world wobbles around us.
Let's make some beautiful mistakes, Michael
